If the funeral was widely approved And everyone thinks it's a a brilliant move Like I was Andy Kaufman, or, perhaps an Elvis type I guess I always had a comedic stripe And under the heat of the old state lights I see my white collar turning grey So when I say farewell to life's ball game I'll be that tall figure inside the picture frame Like I was Jesus in a Stetson hat Y'know...if Jesus had been into that Remember me well when I die If you find me eating to a real bad diet Of booze and cola and all things fried When all of a sudden God gets hold of my youth He says "Hey cowboy, I gotta tell ya the truth" "You're getting quite long in the tooth, And I think that it's time we got out of here" So dress me in a shiny black suit With a brand new pair of pointed cowboy boots And when everyone else wants a piece of the pie You don't have to find yourself a cryin' Remember me well when I die So when I say farewell to life's ball game I'll be that tall figure inside the picture frame Like I was Jesus in a Stetson hat Y'know...if Jesus had been into that Remember me well when I die

Well I woke up this morning with the wind on my neck I've been sleeping on the floor, my body is wreck Outside I knew in this moment that something ain't right And we've gotta mess around in Austin tonight If we don't make there then the money's gonna be tight I'll thank my lucky stars if we find the key to drive away Now it's flooding all day and night down in Houston That's just what the Texas weather's been doin' Mr. Dawson's at the bar, he's drinkin' chilled white wine And he's telling me something 'bout the Midland freight line The water's too deep we're gonna be here for a bit You can never trust the Texas weather on the face of it I've heard songs about a Texas tornado But out on the highway man it's a hell of a rodeo I've never seen the lashing rain like I have today They say a trip around Texas takes longer than the sun That's not scientific son, but we're not having fun So gon' back us out boys, we'll find some time for tequila

I'm walking the streets chasing my shadow Beneath my old coat, there's a radio It's time to go, we're hitchin' tonight Towards the bright lights of Las Vegas As the road goes longer I feel the sweat The drain of the everlasting desert Amongst scarlet eyes, of the rich and the famous I see the bright lights of Las Vegas I've been challenging myself to write to you How I'm sorry that we don't talk anymore 'Bout how now I've seen my saviour In the bright lights of Las Vegas I'm fever dreaming being by your door You're my umbrella in an acid rain Showering of fragments - they're trying to break us In the bright neon lights of Las Vegas The city it smells like shit and smoke But I can't escape the crack of egg yolk Visions of you through alleys of faces Between the lights in Las Vegas I'm walkin' the streets chasin' my shadow.

about

Moments before the COVID-19 wave sent Australia and the world into lockdown in March 2020, Henry J. Sawyer celebrated his 34th birthday and in passing comment (with more than a hint of the alcohol that had been consumed that day) with long time collaborator Joshua Jones said "I think we should do an acoustic EP next week".

It didn't immediately happen, as everyone felt (rightly) that it was best to stay home for a while. Several months of washing hands, sanitizing hands and multiple cases of beer later, Josh and Henry reconvened in late-May to record some tracks. It didn't quite work out, but the seeds were there and over a few weekends in June the product you hear today arrived.

'Acoustic EP' is online-only, and all proceeds go to funding Henry's long awaited new AA single "West Texas Angel/Old Bones" which is due out on Sawyer Music in October 2020.

about

Henry J. Sawyer Melbourne, Australia

Henry J. Sawyer is a Melbourne, Australia based whiskey drinkin', ramblin' cowboy.

A frequent visitor to the lone star state, Sawyer invokes the spirit of Texas barrooms and dancehalls where the echoes of Jerry Jeff, Waylon, Willie and the boys still ring out.

His motto is simple - keep the classic country sound alive.
