Now there's something I'd like to say My story it might ring true Seven years I can't forget that day 'Cos no one knows, I'm one of few. It was way back at the century turn When we crossed those ol' state lines I shed tears and promised I'd return To the angel I left behind Do you remember Tucson to El Paso? Through the back street bars out to the Brazos? West Texas angel wasn't just a name I see her dancing in my picture frame. The wind whips through the western plains And the moon shines on my door I long to swallow my pride and pain For an angel I once fell for. Do you remember Tucson to El Paso? From the back street bars out to the Brazos? West Texas angel wasn't just a name I see her dancing in my picture frame. Now there's something I'd like to say My story it might ring true All these years i've crossed the lands I'm still searching for my angel. Do you remember Tucson to El Paso? Out from the back street bars out to the Brazos? West Texas angel wasn't just a name I see her dancing in my picture frame. Do you remember Tucson to El Paso? Old Bones 03:52
This is a story that's partly truth, and partly fiction Like all good stories should go I'd surmise It's about old dogs, animal or otherwise. About a life well lived now you've turned 33 And being the person you really always ought to be. Life's a funny thing, it's gonna be a bitch sometimes But you don't need to be in a good place to find a rhyme And if the tunnel once of light it now shines starless Well it's better than fighting through the darkness. It needs some fixing up they said, but it's got good bones Yet good bones'll eventually become old bones And you can't teach an old dog new tricks. In time you find you can't rely on the kindness of perfect strangers To be the man you should've been. Life's a funny thing, it's gonna be a bitch sometimes But you don't need to be in a good place to find a rhyme And if the tunnel once of light it now shines starless Well it's better than fighting through the darkness. Life's a funny thing, it's gonna be a bitch sometimes But you don't need to be in a good place to find a rhyme And if the tunnel once of light it now shines starless Well it's better than fighting through the darkness.

about

'West Texas Angel/Old Bones’ is Henry J Sawyer's long-awaited debut physical release after 2018's demo sessions and 2020 bandcamp-exclusive acoustic EP.

Recorded and produced by Patrick Herzfeld (Jesse Dayton, Hayes Carll, Jason James) in late 2019 at Signal Hill Recording in the hill country of Austin, Texas, the single represents the culmination of five years spent writing and recording in Austin, and performing across Australia.

"Some people have an affinity for Tennessee, or California, but Texas is a huge state that has these nuances depending where you are. That’s always struck a chord with me. (West Texas Angel) is about having a lot to love, and a lot to lose.”

Now, after a challenging 2020 and looking forward to a huge 2021, 'West Texas Angel' is a chance for Henry to finally deliver a little slice of the lone star state back to his Australian home.

Henry J. Sawyer Melbourne, Australia

Henry J. Sawyer is a Melbourne, Australia based whiskey drinkin', ramblin' cowboy.
